Weatherman has issued a red alert for Hyderabad, warning residents of possible cloudburst-like conditions in isolated areas. Forecast models suggest that certain zones in the city could receive up to 100 mm of rainfall within a single hour.
Weather analyst Tarini Balaji cautioned that the severe thunderstorm system currently forming over the city carries the potential to deliver high-intensity rainfall in a short span, resembling cloudburst behavior.
"Several parts of Hyderabad are at risk of experiencing rainfall ranging between 80 mm and 100 mm within just one hour. These levels are extremely rare and dangerous," Balaji said.
After three days of intense heat across Telangana, today’s system marks a sharp atmospheric shift. Thunderclouds began building early Thursday afternoon and are expected to intensify overnight, bringing powerful winds, lightning, and torrential downpours.
City officials have been placed on high alert, with emergency teams and drainage response units mobilized in vulnerable low-lying zones.
